A young woman, Marnie Watson, is granted early release from her prison sentence for manslaughter (killing her husband - a violent NYC cop - in self defense) on condition she wear an electronic ankle bracelet and remain within her home, effectively under house arrest, for the remainder of her sentence. Her late husband's partner keeps tabs on her from a patrol car parked across the street, hoping she'll violate probation and he can send her back to prison. But the 100-foot radius her ankle bracelet allows isn't the worst of her problems. Her dead husband -now a malevolent ghost-is still in the house, where he died - intent on savage revenge. When I sat down to watch the 2008 movie '100 Feet' it was solely for two reasons.
The first being that Famke Janssen was in it, and the second being that it is a horror movie, of course. I hadn't heard about the movie prior to finding it by random luck. I didn't even read the synopsis, I just saw that it was a horror movie and saw Famke Janssen on the DVD front cover, and that was all I needed. It turned out that '100 Feet' was actually a rather enjoyable movie. There was a good flow to the storyline, with little useless scenes to serve as filler. Everything here served a purpose and was straight to the point. They had some really impressive effects in the movie, and I must admit that it really helped lift up the movie quite well.
Especially the scene with the mauling in the bedroom. That was actually some of the most impressive special effects I have seen in a long, long time. '100 Feet' was driven by a good storyline, but equally so by a rather good performance by the cast. And while they had a rather small cast, there was a bit more resting on the shoulders of the those performing. And I will say that both Famke Janssen and Bobby Cannavale carried themselves and the movie quite well.
This is definitely a horror movie that is well worth taking the time and effort to sit down and watch. And there are some jump scares here and there throughout the movie.

The family of talented cook, Hassan Kadam, has a life filled with both culinary delights and profound loss. Drifting through Europe after fleeing political violence in India that killed the family restaurant business and their mother, the Kadams arrive in France.
Once there, a chance auto accident and the kindness of a young woman, Marguerite, in the village of Saint-Antonin-Noble-Val inspires Papa Kadam to set up a Indian restaurant there. Unfortunately, this puts the Kadams in direct competition with the snobbish Madame Mallory's acclaimed haute cuisine establishment across the street where Marguerite also works as a sous-chef. The resulting rivalry eventually escalates in personal intensity until it goes too far.
In response, there is a bridging of sides initiated by Hassan, Marguerite and Madame Mallory herself, both professional and personal, that encourages an understanding that will change both sides forever. When I first noticed the ratings on IMDb, my expectations before watching the movie were substantially toned down. I went to the movie with a rather unassuming frame of mind, hoping something good would come out of from the two hours I planned to spend. But, I must say that ratings do not hand down the justice the movie deserves. The story is set in south France, and narrates a clash of two beautiful cultures via its respective culinary grandeur. Further embellished into the story line are two very beautiful actors.
Overall, the movie leaves a very refreshing taste in the end. The entire movie has a very subtle and harmonious tone, with no significant ups or downs, clash or surprises. Its a very easy to watch, light movie that can be enjoyed with the entire family. I feel this movie presents an excellent characterization of the type of globalization our society has come to bear. Unfortunately, as embodied by the reviews and ratings, it appears the western audience is not yet ready to embrace a non-western, non-Caucasian actors.
